The much-awaited series is based on the award-winning graphic novel by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra

After being in development for almost six years, Y: The Last Man now has a premiere date.

The series will premiere on FX on Hulu on Monday, September 13, according to a post by the network on social media. As of posting, Hulu is only available in the United States.

Y: The Last Man is based on a Hugo Award-winning comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. It tells the story of Yorick Brown, the only man left alive on earth after the mysterious sudden deaths of every mammal with a Y chromosome.

The comic books, which were published from 2002 to 2008, follows Yorick and his pet monkey Ampersand – the only other surviving male – as they navigate their chaotic new reality and follow the lead of several women as they try to figure out what happened and work to restore order in the world.

Development on the series began in 2015. It has since seen various changes in the creative team and cast, with Eliza Clark taking the reins after the exit of original showrunners Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croal.

It stars Ben Schnetzer as Yorick, Diane Lane as his mother Congresswoman Jennifer Brown, Ashley Romans as his assigned protector Agent 355, Diana Bang as geneticist Dr. Allison Mann, Olivia Thirlby as Yorick’s older sister Hero Brown, and Juliana Canfield as his girlfriend Beth Deville. – Rappler.com
